With the weather just beginning to cool in many areas of the country, it's a good time to get outside and take some preventive steps against pests -- if you don't want to be sharing your home with them this winter!
Winter pests can be as varied as rats that were happily burrowing outside over the long, temperate summer to carpenter ants that crossed over branches or wires to set up nests in your homes structure.
Because of this, prevention can range from sealing holes and cracks in the structure of your home to cutting back trees that overhang the roof. From keeping trash cans covered and areas clean to replacing standard mercury vapor lights with high pressure sodium vapor or halogen lights. (See 10 Tips to Keep Pests Out for more ideas.)
